Kookaba Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Kookaba Restaurant on High Street, Saundersfoot, feels like finding a comfortable spot to settle into a true taste of Australia without leaving the UK coastline behind. The space hums with a quietly lively energy, warmed by attentive hosts who seem genuinely pleased to see you. Whether you choose the cozy indoor seating or the inviting decked garden under open skies, the atmosphere moves at an easy pace — relaxed enough for a casual meal, yet attentive in every detail.
Here, the food invites exploration; it’s the kind of menu that sparks curiosity and conversation, blending familiar comforts with unexpected twists. You might find yourself drawn into sharing generous platters brimming with fresh seafood, savoring the charred bite of skewers that nod to the Australian outback, or lingering over perfectly cooked steaks that speak of both care and confidence in the kitchen. The portions are generous, robust with flavor, and served with a warmth that makes the meal feel like a shared experience rather than just a meal.
From a local’s perspective, Kookaba has a welcoming and unpretentious rhythm. The staff’s friendliness adds a layer of ease — they navigate requests with a quiet charm and a genuine desire to make guests feel at home, whether it's suggesting something off-menu or accommodating little ones with familiar favorites. This sense of attentive care blends seamlessly with the buzzing background of a community spot returning to its roots — a place where regulars and newcomers alike can gather without fuss, savor well-crafted dishes, and feel the kind of welcome that invites return visits.
In essence, Kookaba is less about formality and more about authenticity: a place where the flavors tell a story, the service feels thoughtful, and each meal offers a chance to discover a little piece of Australia tucked into the heart of Saundersfoot.

Ive eaten in hundreds and hundreds of restaurants and I’ve never been greeted with so much care , the staff was so friendly and welcoming and a lady called Jody went the extra mile with us she was amazing honestly, the food was absolutely delicious and the steak was amazing, I WILL BE RETURNING!

I have been coming every year here since it first opened and Chris ran it. Always great food until a few years back after he had sold it and the food and service wasn’t so good and we tried it a couple of times and decided not to go back. However recently my parents went here and said it was nice again and so we tried it this week. I am not sure if it’s been taken over again by new people as we don’t recognise any of the servers but the service was great and the food was lovely. My steak was a bit chewy but probably my fault as I like it quite rare, however taste was great and we all enjoyed the food and we will be back again! So all good and I would recommend it for great service and lovely food. Oh and those chips were like chip shop chips but thinner - different and lovely!

Visited whilst on holiday and wanted to try something different. Don't let first impressions fool you; when we walked in I was worried that it'd just be like an average restaurant but the food was anything but average. Skippy skewers were a great way to try kangaroo, and the garlic prawns were delicious too! Steaks (Beef & Lamb) were cooked to perfection. The Oz Burger and Mixed Grill were a huge hit with the major meat lovers in our group. Desserts looked fantastic but we were full from starters & mains.

OMG I am so full!! Food was amazing as always. This is always the best steak ever and the chips are so good. Pics really don’t do the food or the portion size justice. Jodi was the best in letting me go off menu when I couldn’t decide. So pork ribs and barramundi I had!! Can’t wait to come back In January

Amazing restaurant. The food was perfect - I had the Oz burger (highly recommended) and my partner as a vegetarian had the spinach and ricotta pasta. The portion sizes were incredibly generous, the flavours were sublime and the presentation was excellent; pricing was great for the quality and quantity of food. The atmosphere was great and the staff were so warm and friendly. I cannot give higher praise, do yourself a favour and visit :)
